See the wheat wave on the oasis! The pristine "high plains" that you'll see along the byway are in the very rural Northwest region of the State. Not far away from Bird City and St. Francis, you'll see the stunning Airkaree Breaks. Travel south along the Byway, and you'll be near Goodland and Sharon Springs.
The State's highest point, Mount Sunflower, rests between Kanorado and Weskan. For the history buffs on the road, check out the city of Wallace and the iconic Fort Wallace Museum.
Every one of the communities along this byway has an elevation that exceeds 3,200 feet! You won't see skyscrapers here; instead, feast your eyes on the "big sky" of the open prairie visitors love to see - especially during an infamous Kansas sunset! Being higher in elevation and far from severe light pollution makes for incredible stargazing!
