Kanopolis is a small community located just 2 miles southeast of Ellsworth. Visitors love how the town is nearby two of the most scenic state parks in Kansas: Mushroom Rock State Park and Kanopolis State Park. No matter where you find yourself in Kanopolis, there is no shortage of things to do and places to see in the surrounding area.
While not directly on the Prairie Trail Scenic Byway route on K-140, Kanopolis is located off of K-111, which is only a few minutes south of K-140.
Originally, the town was intended to serve as an Army post known as Fort Harker during various controversial wars with Indigenous Tribes. These days, the city is surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills and rock formations that attract people from all over the world.
