Kansas is full of places to eat with food from all over the world. Over the past half-century, Kansas has welcomed a lot of various cultures from the Asian continent, and with that have come numerous restaurants and eating establishments, adding new flavors to the state and contributing to the ever-evolving food scene.

In the 2020 census, the estimated Asian population, either alone or in combination, was 3.8% of the population in Kansas. While that might seem small in percentage terms, that amounts to more than 110,000 individuals (enough to be our 6th largest city) with some claim to Asian heritage in Kansas.

The impact Asian-Kansans have had on our restaurant scene has been magnificent, to say the least, and below is a list of places to prove it!

History of Asian Heritage in Kansas

Back to Top of List

Much like the rest of the United States, Kansas only began to see a significant increase in its Asian population after the 70s and 80s. Over the decades, the  Asian diaspora in Kansas has established some of the state's best restaurants and places to eat. However, it isn't just food that has made such a significant impact. Kansas is also home to various events and festivals that celebrate Asian Heritage. For 2025, the annual Wichita Asian Festival will be going into its 44th year, and the KC Japan Festival in Olathe will be celebrating its 27th annual event!

Seoul USA Korean Restaurant

Back to Top of List

I'll begin my list of recommendations in my hometown of Salina, home of Seoul USA Korean Restaurant. Over time, this place has developed into a local favorite. It's usually on my list of places to eat whenever I come back to Salina. They offer online ordering and also have some really cool teas to try as well! I tend to like the seafood here, but the beef is also amazing, too!

Tuptim Thai

Back to Top of List

I've really enjoyed eating here, especially when I'm on my lunch breaks here in Topeka! The food is always very consistent, and the vibe when you walk in, even if it's just for a pickup order, is very welcoming and relaxing; not a bad feeling to have when you are taking a break from work.

Oh, and did I mention they also have a restaurant in Wichita? Although I stand guilty of not eating at the location in Wichita, I can confidently say the food is likely to be fantastic at both locations.

They have their brick-and-mortar location on North Broadway in Downtown Wichita, as well as a food truck that you can see serving people at various events around the city. Last but not least, they also offer catering services!

Silver Lake Chinese Restaurant

Back to Top of List

At first sight, as I drove through Silver Lake, I had no idea what to expect from their local restaurants, and I honestly never thought I'd stop to eat here. After my coworkers informed me of just how good the Silver Lake Chinese Restaurant was, I finally took their advice and tried their food. Now, it seems like everyone I know, including myself, cannot get enough of the food at their place.

This restaurant used to have very limited hours, but they have recently adjusted them because the food is in such high demand. As of early May 2025, they are open Tuesday-Saturday from 11-2 PM and again from 4-8 PM.

Itokos Grill

Back to Top of List

Itokos Grill is a great locally-owned restaurant in Garden City that specializes in mixed bowls. They carry a variety of options to choose from, and now even offer delivery! My friend swears by the burritos here, but I opted for one of their signature bowls, and I food greatly exceeded all my expectations. Not to mention, they also have Boba Milk Tea!

Sake2Me Sushi Rolls

Back to Top of List

Get ready for a quirky one. This location has what looks like a garage door on the outside, but on the inside, you'll be entering a very modern-looking restaurant with an interesting layout and decor. As someone who really enjoys Sushi, I really enjoyed Sake2Me in Hays, and I cannot wait to come back!

Back to Top of List

Welcome to one of Garnett's newest restaurants! This is a fusion-themed place that serves Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai food. Since hitting the scene only a few years ago, it's quickly become a highly sought-after place to eat in the Garnet area. Like some of the other places I've mentioned, they also have some great drinks to try. This has easily been one of the coolest additions to Garnett in recent years!
