October is the month to make the most of the fall travel season in Kansas. The weather can still feel warm towards the beginning of the month, but as the days pass by, October is usually when the weather in Kansas feels the best: not too hot, not too cold.
If you love the fall, then you'll love visiting Kansas during this time of year. Not only is October the peak of our fall foliage around the state, but it's also when most of the state's Fall Festivals are happening as well! College Football
Back to Top of ListIf you love college sports, then you know that October is when college football is in full swing. And if you love a good in-state rivalry, the University of Kansas (KU) and Kansas State University (K-State) have been rivals since 1902. Every year, these two major Universities go head-to-head in the Sunflower Showdown.
While KU and K-State don't always play one another in October, this year, 2026, they are scheduled to play in Manhattan on October 17, 2026. Since K-State has managed to win the last 17 matchups, the rivalry has felt very one-sided; however, in recent years, KU has made their games against K-State much more competitive, and it seems like it's only a matter of time before KU can finally reclaim football bragging rights.

Back to Top of ListCollege Baseball
Kansas has various minor league and NCAA DI schools with excellent baseball programs. Last year, KU was off to one of the hottest starts in all of college baseball. They also made national news after they defeated Minnesota 29-1, forcing the game to end by Mercy Rule, and also for tying the record on consecutive home runs (5 in a row) during an inning. While KU had a truly historic season, both KU and K-State were selected for last year's Super Regionals in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Even though neither team made a run in the tournament, both will be looking to build off of last year's strong performances on the field.
While this year will come with its own surprises, all three schools will be in the midst of their college seasons during the month of March, so don’t hesitate to grab some tickets for an upcoming home game!
