Believe it or not, Kansans take this holiday very seriously! Since the state has significant Irish heritage dating back to the earliest days of Kansas settlement, it makes sense for Kansas to celebrate this day with lots of pride! You’ll be able to find so many places hosting parades, 5k runs, and other festivities as you watch Kansas turn completely green!

Salina

Stiefel Theatre

Hays

Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center 

Head on over to the campus of Fort Hays State for their annual band and choir concerts! Towards the end of the month, they'll invite Helber Fernandes, Piano for a guest artist recital. Going into early April, you'll have the chance to see the FHSU Music Festival. It's safe to say this time of year is a great time to visit Fort Hays State!

Iola

Bowlus Fine Arts Center

The ultimate entertainment venue of Southeast Kansas is in Iola. The Bowlus Fine Arts Center is home to a main stage, a smaller recital hall, and an art gallery, as well as the regular performance hall for the Iola Area Symphony Orchestra.

Topeka

White Concert Hall

White Concert Hall is located on the Washburn University campus and is home to the music department. This coming March will bring some amazing performers in the gospel and symphonic genres. Don't forget to come back in June as this venue also hosts the annual Sunflower Music Festival!

Wichita

The Cotillion

One of the premier multi-purpose event spaces in Kansas. The Cotillion brings in award-winning musicians along with hosting private events for businesses, fan clubs, and weddings!
 

WAVE

Wave is a "social" oasis in Downtown Wichita, home to music events, a beer garden, and a Mexican restaurant. This dynamic space has both indoor and outdoor space as well as being large enough to accommodate thousands of guests!
 

Century II Performing Arts Center

Century II is yet another multi-use event space in the heart of Wichita. Around mid-March, they will be hosting the 2nd Annual RiverCity Tattoo & LifeStyle Expo and Kansas Comic Con.

Pratt

Head on over to Pratt to enjoy a variety of art-themed events. The month will kick off on the 1st with the Mardi Gras Ball & Art Auction, which will be held at the Vernon Filley Art Museum. As the days during the month of March move onward, visitors will have the chance to enjoy three exhibits: the David Vollbracht Corridor Exhibit, the Four Seasons exhibit, and the Tyler Dallis Exhibit: Conversations Under Neon Lights. 

Lindsborg 

The local Birger Sandzen Museum will be hosting the 127th Annual Midwest Art Exhibition, which will run through the months of February, March, and end on April 20th--so no need to worry if you can't make it during March.

The exhibition will feature four collections: 

• Rearview Mirror, a retrospective by McPherson painter Wayne Conyers
• Enigma, paintings by Brian Hinkle of Wichita
• Selections from the Society of American Graphic Artists 89th Annual Members Exhibition
• Sandzen-Greenough Family Print Highlights from the Permanent Collection

Fishing Time!

March is the time when dedicated anglers awake from their winter slumber and begin scouting the various lakes in Kansas for the best catch, they can find! The combination of mild temperatures, wind, and light rain creates fishing conditions that are perfect for anyone hitting the lake that day. Don’t forget to check out the Kansas Wildlife and Parks fishing reports to see when and where the fish are biting in Kansas!

Biking & Cycling

One of the lesser-known perks about Kansas is just how great the landscape is for cyclists. Those who enjoy long, rolling hills to test their gear on will absolutely love regions like the Flint Hills and the landscape of Southeast Kansas. In fact, one of the biggest cycling events in the Midwest, known as Unbound Gravel occurs annually in Emporia. This massive event happens in late May and early June, attracting thousands of highly-trained cyclists from around the world. Some would even say that it's the longest and toughest race you can do on an all-gravel course.

Cosplaying Time!

Calling all cosplayers to Kansas! Kansas has a Comic Con in Wichita – the state’s largest city! The event is near Wichita’s historic “Old Town” district at the Century II Performing Arts Center.

These wacky and wild superstars will be touring through Kansas this Spring! They’ll be putting on some stellar performances in Topeka, Wichita, and Dodge City. As someone who remembers seeing them come to Salina when I was a kid in the early 2000s, I can say these guys are 10/10 when it comes to entertaining kids who love basketball. Don’t expect anything serious from these guys! It’s all fun and (literally) games with the Globetrotters.

Men's College Basketball Tournament

The tournament comes to Wichita! - You heard that right—Wichita will be hosting games for the 1^st and 2^nd rounds of the NCAA D1 Men’s Basketball Tournament. Games will be hosted from March 20-22 at INTRUST BANK ARENA in downtown Wichita. Don’t miss your chance to see March Madness live in Kansas!

Junior College Tournament (NJCAA) - Hutchinson, a city known for Salt Mining located just 45 miles Northwest of Wichita, has become a regular host for the NJCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. Sort of like a “mini march madness,” this event runs from March 22-29 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. You never know which of these Junior College prospects might be on your favorite team next season!

College Baseball

Kansas has various minor league and NCAA DI schools with excellent baseball programs. Last year, Wichita State, K-State, and KU came off seasons with winning records, with K-State being selected for the NCAA tournament. All three schools will be in the midst of their college seasons during the month of March, so don’t hesitate to grab some tickets for an upcoming home game!

Minor League Baseball

Kansas hosts two minor league teams: The Wichita Wind Surge and The Kansas City Monarchs. The Wind Surge begin their season in very early April, and the KC Monarchs start their season in May. While you’ll have to wait until after March to watch either team, it’s still a great time to plan and grab some season tickets! Both teams also offer ‘package plans’ if you can’t make it to every home game!
