A former Cherokee County coal mining community, West Mineral is home to Big Brutus, one of the world’s largest electric shovels. The reclaimed strip pits that comprise the nearby Mined Land Wildlife Area bear additional testimony to the community’s mining history and provide terrific opportunities for camping, hunting, and fishing.
