The Prairie Sunset Trail is a 15 mile rail-banked trail between Garden Plain, Goddard and Wichita in southwest Sedgwick County. Beginning at 295th St West and continuing to S Hoover Rd in Wichita, the Prairie Sunset Trail is ideal for walking, jogging, and bicycling. Trailheads are available at Garden Plain, Goddard, or 111th St W. You may also easily access the trail at any street crossing. A low water bridge over the Cowskin Creek will be completed in 2017, connecting the trail from Maize Rd in Wichita on east to Hoover Rd.
Open year-round, the Prairie Sunset Trail is home to many native Kansas plants and animals. In addition to exploring the trail by foot or bicycle, the wooded areas, streams and farmland along the trail offer ample opportunity for bird watching or geocaching. Conveniently located just 5 miles from downtown Wichita, the trail offers city dwellers a respite from the bustle of the city.
