Prairie Oaks Inn strives to be more than just another Bed and Breakfast. While we are a nice place to stay, we hope you view us as your final destination. Our accommodations and meals are comfortable and in keeping with our country roots. We are also the home of the Flying M Ranch which is a working alpaca ranch specializing in Suri Alpacas, we are active in Kansas AgriTourism and promoting Kansas Made products and services. Also on the property is the home of the Don Brownlee family. You will want to pay special attention to what that house has to offer visitors. The basis of the B&B facility is a large oak log home offering nearly 8,000 square feet of comfort and opportunity. It is quite common to see deer, turkey, pheasant, coyotes and even bobcats while relaxing on the deck in the mornings and evenings. Three and a half miles away in the town of Sylvia is the house where we raised our family. It will be available to rent by the night for groups, with the two properties we can accommodate large groups for reunions, conferences and other events. On the grounds are different picturesque areas perfect for outdoor weddings. There are also many who have used these areas for family and senior pictures as well. Located in south central Kansas you will find yourself close to many attractions: In Hutchinson there is the Cosmosphere and Space Museum (part of the Smithsonian) and Imax theater, the Underground Salt Mine Museum, Kansas State Fair; Quivera National Wildlife Refuge; Fort Hays, Fort Larned, Fort Dodge, Dodge City and more are all interesting places to visit. There is a pond on the premises, guests can use the row boat, canoe, fish (catch and release). There is excellent hunting in the area as well as a great opportunity to simply watch wildlife. The hope for our guests is that they have as relaxing or as exciting a stay as they wish.Property is in a rural area with lots of trees and wildlife. The house is an 8,000 sq ft oak log home, in a decorating style in which anyone will feel at home. There is a stocked pond behind the house, we have numerous domestic ducks who enjoy the water. We have canoes and a paddle boat for guests to use. There is a large meeting room for receptions, group meetings, etc. We have a 6 bedroom, 3 bath house that is not part of the B&B, but is available for larger groups on a nightly basis, it can also be used as overflow for a larger group. Also on the property is the former home of Don Brownlee. The Brownlee family was early settlers to this part of KS and were instrumental in early Kansas society and politics. The house is a museum and a tribute to Don, housing much of his art work, a working pipe organ, secret rooms, passageways and doors. Tours are free to guests. Also on the property is an alpaca ranch, we specialize in the Suri Alpaca and have over 100 head. Guests can interact with the animals, and involve themselves with as much of that operation as they like. Group rates are available.
