This old Jail was built in 1869 and was in continuous use until it was closed in 1958. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1977. Step back in time to the days of the old west at the Old Allen County Jail Museum. This forbidding, two-story structure was built of native limestone and was home to many notorious criminals. Visitors to the jail are invited to view the first floor's solitary confinement cell, walk through the 1891 steel cage cell block, and read the graffiti left by the jail's many "guests". The second floor features the living quarters used by the jailer and his family during the late 1800s with furnishings from that time period and other interesting jailhouse artifacts. Guided tours Tuesday thru Saturday @ 1:30 May 1sth through October 1st.
