Visit the North Pole Park in Downtown WaKeeney year-round. WaKeeney has been known as "the Christmas City of the High Plains" since 1950. The North Pole Park features a holiday mural of antique row houses all decked out for the season. This park is the center of the festivities during the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in November. The Tree, which is located in the middle of the main intersection at Russell Avenue and Main Street, is always lit for the season on the Saturday night following Thanksgiving. Santa Claus arrives to light the Tree and then proceeds to his house in the North Pole Park where he visits with the children and hands out treats. Enjoy all the holiday activities during this special evening. The park is located just a half block south of the main intersection. Look for the Candy Canes!
