The museum exhibits over 2,400 varieties of barbed wire and over 500 varieties of tools used in the construction of fences. Visitors learn the history of barbed wire and how it influenced the settlement of 19th century Kansas through exhibits and dioramas. The invention and use of barbed wire signaled the end of the open range. The museum houses the Lee and Ruby Shank Theatre, Larry Greer Research Center and library and the Barbed Wire Hall of Fame. The museum is also a WIFI hotspot.
