Hotel Josephine was built by A. D. Walker in 1889 in Holton, Kansas. The Hotel was was named after Walker's daughter, Josephine. She was born September 19, 1889. The Josephine opened when she was four months old. She graduated from Holton High School in 1908. Josephine continued her education and graduated from Kansas University.
The Hotel was in operation continuously longer than any hotel west of the Mississippi until it closed in December of 2010. In May of 2011 John Chiles and his daughter, Lori Ford purchased and reopened the Josephine. In November 2020, Sara Fox purchased and revamped Hotel Josephine to bring out a more modern feel to the historic building adding a Josephine's Boutique a unique retail shop. Hotel Josephine also features Oak Roots a Farm to Table on site dining experience.
Hotel Josephine is located one block east of the Historic Holton square, where nearby shopping adds to an enjoyable experience.
