The historic Emporia Granada Theatre was constructed in 1929. Its 1,400 capacity made it one of the largest movie palaces in Kansas. The theatre's exterior is designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style popular during the late 1920's. The stucco front facade features intricate terra cotta details, including five clowns which provide a theatrical touch. The Spanish style is carried into the theatre with alcoes surrounded by gilded plaster details. Ornate plaster panels also lined the balcony rail and the proscenium arch. Today, the Granada Theatre is a multipurpose venue that hosts a variety of activities. Each month, there is a list of events to attend ranging from classic movies to live music nights. The theatre can be booked for private parties, weddings, or receptions. The unique floor plan allows for banquet seating or theatre style seating for shows and productions. The theatre is a fun place to spend an afternoon. Tours of the Granada take approximately 45 minutes and cover the history of the theatre, a look into our newly designed green rooms, and a chance to view our original projection room.
