An 1871 pioneer rock home, a 1915 one room school, and 1898 church, a 1910 railroad depot, a museum building and gift shop, an agriculture building, a blacksmith shop, other buildings, and a woodvane windmill which still pumps fresh water are situated on a 5-acre tract of land south of Great Bend's Arkansas River bridge on Highway 281. The site also is an official interpretive facility for the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and information point on the National Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway. Displays feature our agricultural beginnings in the Heartland. See website for hours. Tracking/HistoryThe museum preserves the history of Great Bend and Barton County which includes its Native American roots, location on the Santa Fe Trail, tribute to the post-Civil War Exodusters, World War II and Beyond. Memorial at the B-29 air field dedicated to those who served in WWII. Located at WWII airfield for B-29 training.Group tours are available. Admission is charged.
