The Andover Public Library, is the busy place in the city. On average, 350 people walk through the library’s front door to check out books, listen to a story being read, participate in a nationally recognized Summer Reading program, use a public computer or access the internet, select materials for home schooling, or read a newspaper.If you looked at the library’s stats on materials checked out or patrons, you would see a high number of children and youth. That’s because the library has focused on children’s programming with Story Time sessions and Summer Reading. Story Time attendance has increased 645% since 2000; and Summer Reading participation has grown 29% each of the past four years. Children are not the only focus. There are special services like movie night, passport applications, notary services, and Novel Journey’s (books delivered to homebound patrons. The library takes special reading programs into the elementary schools. The library currently serves almost 8,000 patrons in a city with a 11,000 population. This new library is a big asset for the community and activities keep growing.Come to the library and rub elbows with soccer moms, grandmas, business people, students and toddlers and see our new state-of-the-art library. Andover's library is 15,000 square feet video-conferencing capabilities, an art gallery, dedicated genealogical area, large public computer area with Internet access and, of course, more books, videos, DVD’s and CD’s and audio books. This new facility, an environmentally responsible building in the pastoral setting of Central Park, promises to continue to be a community gathering place and center of activities and a destination place not only for Andover but also for the region.
