Newton's train depot welcomes the most Amtrak passengers of any other in Kansas. This unique building opened in 1930 and once featured a Harvey House and a dormitory upstairs for Harvey Girls. The building is designed in the Tudor Revival style and the interior features heavy-beamed ceilings and half-timbered walls. The building is currently open to serve Amtrak passengers from midnight to 8 a.m. daily. The building is in the heart of downtown and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
