It’s hard to be humble in Humboldt these days. Not when you’re a poster child for small-town revival that’s even caught the attention of The New York Times. Around the downtown square, this community of 1,800 has transformed century-old buildings into chic metro-style destinations.
Take Octagon City Coffee Company, for instance, where a barista serves salted caramel mocha frappes and other artisan beverages to locals and tourists who congregate. Step through an adjoining doorway into playful Get ’Em Tiger novelty gift shop, featuring cute stickers and other unique finds.
A wall-size mural of a bee amid abstract flowers sets the scene inside HoneyBee Bruncherie. Here, the cinnamon roll made with ube (purple yam) is all the buzz, along with Saturday Morning Cartoons (Cap’n Crunch pancakes topped with Pop-Tarts pieces and berries). Elevate brunch or lunch with a mimosa flight.
- 822 Bridge St
A modern brunch and lunch spot on the downtown square in the stunning city of Humboldt. Custom menu that is poetry to the palette.
Named after the French word for “jewel,” Bijou Confectionary glistens with sugary delights, satisfying sweet cravings with fudge, macarons, cookies, and a self-serve buffet of gummies and chocolates. The luxe Bijou Apartment above the store rents on Airbnb.
Cap off your town square tour at The Hitching Post. Old-school country music and an extensive whiskey list keep the party rolling. For a more intimate night out, the soft lighting and velvety furnishings of Perrenoud’s Cocktail Bar offer an escape on the ground floor of the historic Bailey Hotel, now a boutique property known as The Bailey with sumptuous bedding, specialty bath products and 4K televisions in each of the five guest rooms and suites.
- 820 Bridge St
Proven to be a hot spot in town. This honky tonkin' live music havin' tavern serves up a great variety of beers, non-alcohol cocktails, and curated whiskies.
