Joe's KC-Style Barbecue Sauce

  • 3 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon dijon-style mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worchestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

In a medium saucepan, stir together all ingredients. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Simmer the sauce mixture, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring the barbecue sauce often as it cooks. 

Remove from heat. Cool mixture to room temperature. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Makes about 4 cups.
