Historic Kansas Yellow Brick Road Trip
From 1854 to 1861, the tumultuous Bleeding Kansas years, the Kansas Territory was embroiled in conflict over whether to enter the Union as a free state or a slave state. Activists from both sides flooded the territory to attempt to sway the outcome, and the opposing factions engaged in conflict, violence and psychological warfare. Trace the state's history from the early military developments that protected westward pioneers to the years leading up to the Civil War.
