Back in 2016, KU Athletics invested $9 million in a brand new facility for the KU Women’s Tennis Team. It proved to be a banner year for the team and an exciting place to play. Today, Jayhawk Tennis Center is still home to the women’s tennis team, but it is also open to the tennis community at large.
Jayhawk Tennis Center features six indoor and six outdoor hard courts, multiple locker rooms for the public and the team, meeting spaces, coaches’ offices, a team lounge, a training room and a multi-purpose room in which to watch film.
The Jayhawk Tennis Center has stadium seating available, both indoor and outdoor, for great fan viewing of every court. The indoor courts are climate controlled 24 hours a day to provide a pleasant experience for all and to maintain equipment. The outdoor courts are lighted for evening matches.
Coach Todd Chapman’s message in 2017 is still relevant today – “The new Jayhawk Tennis Center, coupled with the eight existing courts at Rock Chalk Park, will give us the opportunity to bring some big-time tennis events to Lawrence, including the Big 12 Championship and other local, regional, and national junior events,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “This new facility is going to be something all former, current and future Jayhawks are going to be proud of and excited about.”
