​UTILITIES/MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

The City of Westmoreland is currently accepting applications for a utilities/maintenance assistant.  This position is responsible for, but not limited to, making repairs and maintenance of all aspects of the water distribution and sewer collecting systems, mowing/maintenance of all city properties, available to work on call hours, and street maintenance.  Applicant must be 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, be able to pass drug/alcohol screening and background check, must have or able to obtain a CDL within 12 months of employment, and must have or able to obtain KDHE small systems water and class 1 wastewater certification within 18 months of employment.  This is a full-time position with benefits to include:  personal leave time, holiday pay, paid single health plan, uniforms and footwear provided, and AFLAC plan.  Salary negotiated based upon qualifications and experience with a starting salary of $16 per hour.  Position opened until filled.  A complete job description and application are available at City Hall, 202 Main Street, Westmoreland, KS  66549

The City of Westmoreland, Kansas is the county seat for Pottawatomie County.

Established in 1853, Westmoreland was once a stop for travelers on the Oregon Trail.  South of town on Highway 99 is a roadside park dedicated to those travelers complete with informational signage and a covered wagon and oxen sculptured by Ernest White, local resident.

Westmoreland is home to one of the top elementary schools in the State of Kansas as well as in the school district which can lay claim to having a Blue Ribbon Junior/Senior High School  by the U.S. Department of Education.  The Blue Ribbon Award is considered the highest honor an American school can achieve.​

The City of Westmoreland owns and maintains a 16 pad RV Park along Highway 99. Campers will find 12 sites with full hookups, a playground for children, 2 horse shoe pits, the Frank Memorial Shelter and a bathhouse. (operational after the first frost in the spring until the first freezing temperature in the winter). Adjacent to the RV Park is a 9 hole disc golf course, sand volleyball, dog park, Dechairo Shelter and the city swimming pool. Both shelters can be reserved by turning in the application located on the            tab. ​​​​​
