A city with a population of around 200 residents, Ransom packs an unexpected small-town punch. Situated in Ness County, Ransom is located just off the magnificent Smoky Valley Scenic Byway, one of the most incredible drives in the State.
Not only is the scenery spectacular, but so are the natives! Ransom is the birthplace of Ruth Riley, a decorated professional basketball player. Riley became the first female to win MVP awards in both the NCAA and WNBA championships. Ruth was named the “Naismith Player of the Year” (2001), National Women’s Basketball league champion, and Olympic gold medalist. For her extraordinary accomplishments, Riley was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
