Things to Do in Alta Vista, Kansas

Alta Vista is a community in Wabaunsee County and the Flint Hills region of Kansas. Located straight north of Council Grove and at the intersection of K-4 and K-177, this community is a great place to stop for those catching gorgeous views of surrounding hills. Many of the early settlers suggested naming the city Cable City, honoring the Superintendent of the new railroad going through the community.  Mr. Cable, being a modest character, did not favor the name and suggested the name Alta Vista, meaning high view.  When you drive through this beautiful area, you will agree the view is incredible!

When you visit, drop by Main Street downtown where you will find a meal at the Local Bar and Grill or Barnyard Café. Then explore antique stores to find a new treasure or take a photo on Rock Island Bridge, a 1911 one-lane wooden bridge!
