Cosmosphere

Hutchinson

The Smithsonian-affiliated Cosmosphere houses the largest collection of U.S. space artifacts outside the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. It features the largest combined collection of United States and Russian artifacts in the world, STEM-based camp and educational programs that build leaders and motivate explorers, and interactive live shows and theater venues that challenge and inspire.

As a themed entertainment venue of considerable size, the Cosmosphere lends itself well to groups interested in unique experiences. Groups of 15 or more from around the country, ranging from bus tours and travel clubs to church groups and corporate outings, can visit the Cosmosphere and enjoy its affordable group rates. The Cosmosphere also offers five different meeting room options, as well as a full-facility rental space.

The Carey Digital Dome Theater will immerse you in a theatre experience so vivid, you’ll feel like you’re part of the action!  Our dome theater is home to the most cutting-edge technology in digital projection in the nation, featuring a custom-designed lens that allows us to project on the full dome with the highest resolution and clarity available.

In the Hall of Space Museum, you’ll take a journey through the history of space travel. Witness the world’s most significant collection of U.S. and Russian artifacts, including the actual Apollo 13 command module, Liberty Bell 7 Mercury capsule, and a flown Vostok spacecraft. Visit Cosmo.org for more info.

Lurking below the earth’s surface is an adventure you won’t soon forget! Descend 650 feet underground at Strataca, an active salt mine and the only opportunity of its kind in North America. Journey through intriguing and palatial rooms that are always 68 degrees with low humidity – and no Kansas wind!

Learn about salt mining, past and present, in the Mining Gallery and then catch a ride on the Salt Mine Express train to experience the raw mine just as it was left by miners over 50 years ago. The Dark Ride awaits as your journey continues on a tram through a maze of massive salt chambers and a chance to collect a souvenir piece of salt! Strataca also offers meeting space in their event center. This room holds 200 people along with many off-site catering options. Due to mine safety regulations, children cannot be allowed under the age of 4 to go underground. Visit UnderKansas.org for more info.
