The museum was opened in 1984. The artifacts on display all relate to people or history from Jackson County. Examples: bottles manufactured in Holton; a unique collection of W.P.A. dolls; beautiful hand carved wooden canes; silk spun from silkworms raised in the county; millinery pieces with photographs of the items when they were in the store; oxen yokes; items used on the farm; articles from the wagon train era; and household displays.

Some wonderful collections have been loaned over the years, so that others may share the enjoyment of seeing the items.
