A public monument is located in historic Old East Lawrence. The memorial is composed of an 1860s masonry dwelling, the Murphy/Bromelsick house, constructed in the "rebuilding" period following the 1863 raid of William C. Quantrill. The Memorial is the first in more than 70 years, paying tribute to the vision, perseverance, and sacrifices of Lawrences abolitionist founders and early residents.
