The University of Kansas broke ground for the 32,000-square-foot DeBruce Center on May 2, 2014. The DeBruce Center features James Naismith's original "Rules of Basket ball". The new facility was made possible by a lead gift from the DeBruce Foundation. The DeBruce Center features: - The original rules of basketball, created in 1891 by James Naismith and purchased by benefactors David and Suzanne Booth - Displays celebrating James Naismith, the "Father of Basketball", and Forrest "Phog" Allen, the "Father of - Basketball Coaching". - The Courtside Cafe, with seating for over 200 - A catering space for special events - The Original Rules Gift Shop
