Presenting the 50-member Russian National Ballet Theatre in the full-length ballet Swan Lake . This classic production debuted in 1877 and is often called the “national ballet of Russia.” It tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow in the late 1980s, when many of the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union’s ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom. The principal dancers of the company came from the upper ranks of the great ballet companies and academies of Russia.
