Join us on Friday, June 15 for this unusual event in the old Morganville school gym, where the stage has amazing acoustics. Classical concerto first movements will be performed by Dahlia Dean in Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2, and Dana Dean in Tartini's Cello (Gamba) Concerto. The new jazz swing "Ballad for String Orchestra with Drum-Set Improvisation" will be premiered. Written by Chris Banner of Manhattan, it will include guest drum soloist Robert Rodriguez of Manhattan, a well known studio musician who performs with the Thundering Cats Band. Manhattan High School bassist Matthew Pickering, a 2018 All-State Orchestra Member, will also be a guest artist during the "Ballad." After these performances, there will be a String Instrument "Petting Zoo" of little violins, violas, cellos, and basses which can be tried out by members of the audience under supervision of the musicians. The Orchestra always enjoys visiting with audience members as well. New musicians of all ages and technical ability levels may join the Orchestra, which resumes rehearsals on July Fridays at 7:00 in the Morganville Community Room. Community Chamber Orchestra operates without a conductor, paying all its musicians. It is now entering its 21st season of providing live chamber music to rural audiences in North Central Kansas.
