Bernard's Country Cabbage

(From Fall 2001 issue)

2 heads cabbage
1 Tblsp. chicken base
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
1/2 yellow onion
2 Tblsp. sugar
1 c. chopped fresh ham
2 c. water
Garlic, salt and pepper to taste

Place ham, chicken base, and water in large pot. Bring water to a boil. Boil until 1/4 of the water is left.
Cut the cabbage into the size you prefer. Cut onions, red and green peppers into long slices. Place cabbage, onions, pepper and garlic (no garlic salt) to your taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and steam for 20 minutes.
