Get Wild in Wichita

Plan your getaway to this bustling urban community with cow town and aviation roots and a robust offering of attractions and more dining options than you can shake a fork at.

Want to walk on the wild side? Feed the animals and have other hands-on experiences at Tanganyika Wildlife Park. Immerse yourself in the outdoors at the Great Plains Nature Center and do some wildlife watching at the nearby Chisholm Creek Park. Wichita has more than 26 miles of cycling paths (including a beautiful stretch along the Arkansas River), so be sure to load up the bikes before you set out.

Just a half hour west of Wichita is Cheney State Park and Cheney Reservoir. Pitch your tent at one of over 400 primitive campsites, or stay in one of the nine modern cabins and enjoy your days fishing and boating on this 9,600 acre lake.

Other essential attractions include the Museum of World Treasures, Exploration Place, Sedgwick County Zoo, Old Cowtown Museum and the Prairie Rose Chuckwagon.
