Water Sports
Whether you sail, captain a personal watercraft or prefer easygoing sight-seeing from a pontoon boat you are never far from a lake in Kansas. The Sunflower State offers more than 200 square miles of water served by modern marinas and campgrounds.
The state's 24 primary reservoirs range in size from 1,200 acres to a whopping 16,000 acres. Most reservoirs are part of state parks with well-kept swimming beaches, picnic areas and campgrounds near the water.
Sailing
Steady prairie winds make Cheney Reservoir a blue-water racetrack for sail boaters and windsurfers. In fact, this 9,500-acre reservoir rates as one of the nation's top sailing lakes.
Boating
Kansas lakes and reservoirs offer the recreational boater a variety of opportunities to spend many hours on the water. Whether in a pontoon or speed boat, mile after mile of lake and reservoir shorelines throughout Kansas make boating a favorite outdoor activity.
Cedar Bluff Reservoir, 20 miles south of WaKeeney, provides 6,800 acres of boating plus 100-foot-tall bluffs along one shore.
