From easygoing jaunts to leg-straining challengers, more than 2,000 miles of recreational trails beckon hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders to explore Kansas.
Hiking
Hiking on Kansas trails can be as simple as a couple of hours spent outdoors enjoying wildlife or as adventurous as backpacking with an overnight stay under the stars. Some Kansas trails provide insight into the history of the state while others increase your knowledge of the geology of the landscape. Kansas trails give the beginner and the veteran hiker a variety of experiences. Please remember to stay safe and courteous while hiking the trails of Kansas.
Cycling
Wide open spaces and biking in Kansas merge to provide the ultimate biking experience. With many miles of biking trails to choose from, each experience can be customized to the individual. Birding and wildlife sites are located among many biking trails. Communities along the routes provide insight into local culture through culinary and shopping venues.

Mountain Biking
Kansas backroad and dirt trail terrain rages from smooth and easy to steep climbs. For longer trails with stream crossings and varied incline the challenge is the ride. Clinton State Park provides more than eight miles of endurance riding trails. Central Kansas trails are more natural in design and provide the ultimate challenge.
Equestrian
Kansas equestrian trails are as diverse as the Kansas landscape. With state parks providing camping areas, restrooms and water hookups, they are ideal for extended journeys.
Boulder Bluff Trail provides a scenic ride through the Flint Hills and along the El Dorado Lake. An equestrian campground is available within El Dorado State Park.

Water Trails
The Kansas (Kaw) River stretches 171 miles from its origin in Junction City to it confluence with the Missouri River. The Friends of the Kaw sponsors both private and public educational float trips from March through October.
