Native Stone Scenic Byway
Get a glimpse of the rural life along the state's Native Stone Scenic Byway, which winds through the eastern Flint Hills for 48 miles. The byway takes its name from the limestone slabs that are the Flint Hills' foundation. You'll see shelves of limestone interrupting the vast prairie of big bluestem and other grasses. Look for vintage bridges, walls, homes and even fences made of the durable, honey-colored rock.
