Farms
Known as the breadbasket of America, a profound connection to the land reigns across the state of Kansas. Many opportunities along the way allow travelers to experience where their food came from with a visit to a farm.
Farm animals in Kansas include more than just traditional cows, pigs and chickens. In Kansas you can visit alpacas, sheep, even miniature horses!
The Kansas state animal is the buffalo. While they once numbered in the millions, there are many opportunities to view them across the state in Assaria (near Salina), Canton, Clifton, Garden City, Hays and Overbrook.
Many museums around the state have information about the history of agriculture in Kansas. Check out the National Agriculture Center Hall of Fame for a look at the history of farming though exhibit and artifacts, including antique machinery.
Farming is a year-round job, but the fruits of the labor are only available during harvest. You-pick farms let you pick your own asparagus, apples, Christmas trees, peaches, pumpkins and more! Annual farm tours take you down on the farm in Ellis County, Kaw Valley, Miami County and Ottawa. Harvest festivals in Kansas celebrate our many crops including corn, sunflowers and wheat.
