Salina
At the crossroads of Kansas with so much to offer!
You'll discover unique attractions and events, excellent shopping and dining, comfortable accommodations and warm hospitality. Among those unique attractions is Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventures. This tremendous facility features both a 65-acre zoological park nestled in the Kansas prairie, with more than 300 animals on exhibit and a NEW world-class wildlife museum, housing one of the largest collections of full-mount animals in the world. The museum also includes a gallery, children's discover area and more. Relax on the veranda of Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery while you enjoy a view of the vineyard and sample from their 25 varieties of wine.
Our historic downtown is evolving into an entertainment and cultural district, with restaurants, shops, galleries and several cultural venues. Impressive on any scale, Salina's cultural climate flourishes through diverse venues and offerings. The Salina Art Center, Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts, Salina Community Theatre, Art Center Cinema and various galleries provide wonderful opportunities for visitors and citizens alike to enjoy music, dance, live theatre, film and works in a variety of media.
Salina's location in the center of Heartland USA is perhaps the single most important factor in its past, present and future. Founded in 1858, Salina is positioned near the geographic center of the United States. Centrally located, Salina is the same distance from Los Angeles and New York (1490 miles). Downtown's Smoky Hill Museum and the very unique Yesteryear Museum and Smoky Hill Bison Company are stewards of our history and heritage - providing a glimpse of who we are, and how we came to be in Salina.
The Smoky Hill River Festival, held each June, welcomes 80,000 people to enjoy children's activities, down-home to gourmet food, fine art exhibitions, musical performers and craftspersons from across the country. Celebrations of heritage include By Gone Day, Fall Engine Show, All American Fourth, Santa Fe Day and others.
Sports and leisure activities abound at golf courses, baseball/softball diamonds, tennis courts and playgrounds, throughout Salina's extensive parks system. The Bicentennial Center hosts a myriad of sporting events, concerts, trade shows and conventions each year. The Center also serves as the home court for the Kansas Cagerz, of the United States Basketball League, and is the site for the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Championships each March. The Saline County Livestock & Expo Center hosts a variety of activities on their grounds, from the Fair each August, to horse shows, ag shows, auctions and rodeos throughout the year.
