Olathe
Experience Yesterday, Play Today, and Shop-Like-There-Is-No-Tomorrow with All of Kansas City at Our Doorstep!
We invite you to take advantage of our rich historical and cultural attractions commemorating Olathe’s heritage. In addition to the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, visit the William Marra Museum of Deaf Culture, designed to communicate the message of the deaf community and the history of the Kansas School for the Deaf. Stop at the Ensor Farm Site Museum and Park, home of Marshall Ensor, a pioneer in amateur HAM radio who trained individuals during WWI to utilize the radio system. Walk the local trails including the recently re-developed Lone Elm Park, which commemorates trails history, notables like the Donner Party and Kit Carson stayed at Lone Elm Campground, the only frontier trails campground where the Oregon, Santa Fe and California Trails converged. See historic planes at the Old Olathe Naval Air Station, where John Glenn and Bob Barker were trained during WWII. Take the Historic Tour of Olathe, a walking-driving tour of Olathe that features approximately 40 historic sites in the community.
Join the thousands of young athletes, their families, and fans that visit Olathe each year to participate in or view spirited athletic events. Or, just bring your golf clubs and play at one of our many golf courses.
If you like nature, then you’ll enjoy Ernie Miller Nature Center and Park with paved hiking trails on 113 acres, an outdoor amphitheater and educational center. You can also enjoy solitude in acres of native tallgrass prairie, woodlands, creeks, a 5-acre lake and 6 miles of trails at The Prairie Center.
Our community offers a variety of art venues. Visit the downtown area and enjoy the art tour where pieces from across the United States are displayed.
Olathe offers a dynamic variety of shopping, such as the Great Mall of the Great Plains. When you get hungry, our community has more than 100 restaurants for the entire family. And, if it’s Kansas City BBQ that you’re looking for, try one of our four venues! Too much for one day? Olathe offers 10 hotels and a bed-and-breakfast for all your lodging needs!
