A fine art gallery with over 2,000 art objects by such artists as Renoir, Thomas Hart Benton and Frederic Remington. Beyond the classic columns and heavy door of the Bluestem Building, visitors find a warm personal atmosphere in which to enjoy the Coutts Memorial Collection. The museum was established in 1970 by Warren Hall Coutts, Jr., an El Dorado attorney, in honor of his son and law partner Warren Hall "Bud" Coutts III. The museum houses objects of art, including original paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. Artworks for the museum were purchased mainly by Warren Hall Coutts, Jr. He traveled extensively and purchased works from Russia, China, France, Holland, England and South America. The collection has been enriched by numerous donations of art by friends of the Coutts family. Visitors get the feeling of being in a private collector's home instead of a museum. Tasteful antique furnishings, some of which belonged to the Coutts family, antique Persian rugs and artful arrangements set the mood for leisurely, relaxed browsing. The elder Coutts died in 1988 at the age of 88 and true to his conviction, provisions in his will allowed for the continuation of the memorial, a legacy of fine art. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also arranges special exhibitions of touring collections and hosts special events throughout the year. Tours of the museum are welcome and may be arranged.
