The Chaplin Nature Center is a 230-acre nature preserve along the Arkansas River near Arkansas City in Cowley county Kansas. The Center consists of over 4-miles of hiking trails, a 3000-square foot Visitor/Interpretive building, and offers environmental educational programs for all ages.
The 230-acre facility serves as an oasis of natural diversity for wildlife and provides opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird watching. Visitors can explore prairies, a floodplain forest, a spring-fed creek and the sandy beaches of the Arkansas River. The trails are open every day from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center has seasonal hours, but is open on the weekends year-round. The Chaplin Nature Center has a long tradition of providing access to the Visitor’s Center and to the trail system free of charge.
