Butterfield Trail Bunkhouse
The bunkhouse is located in Trego County along Butterfield's Overland Despatch Trail near the Smoky Hill River and the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway. You can walk in the footsteps of the westward-bound pioneer as they made their way from Fort Leavenwoth to Denver. The bunkhouse combines staying at a nontraditional bed & breakfast and being close to nature. It's nestled among the trees in a small working farm and cattle setting. Listen for the distant sounds of wagon trains as they made their way across the prairie. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the pasture, view the wildflowers in season, hunt for fossils at the limestone bluffs, do a little bird watching with wildlife in abundance or just curl up and read a good book. But you definitely don't want to miss the fiery sunsets or the comfort of the rain falling on the tin roof!
For the hunters, Trego County is known for large populations of pheasant, deer, quail and even wild turkeys. You will have permission to hunt on several hundred acres of land in the surrounding area. And for the fishermen, Cedar Bluff State Park and Reservoir is just a few minutes away.
The Bunkhouse is a guesthouse with one bedroom(accommodates up to 4), family and living area with complete kitchen facilities. Guests may do their own cooking or have additional meals provided in addition to the full breakfast which is brought to them each morning.
