Outstanding museum with two floors of climate-controlled displays and research facility. Exhibits interpret the rich history of the town, including industry and commerce, domestic life and social aspects. Of special interest are the Route 66 and Baseball Exhibits. The Main floor features an art gallery, Victorian era rooms and an extensive World War I and II display. The lower floor features a full-sized barn, 1910 era farm house and a replicated vintage street with 1870s businesses. Additional rooms feature a full-sized model of a lead and zinc mine, a 1926 LaFrance fire engine and a replicated street of 6 window displays of businesses from the 1930s era. The Heritage Center also features exhibits on Native American tribes that resided in the area and the African American experience in the region. Outside on the museum grounds is an orignial U.S. tank used in the Korean War, and an 1870s cabin complete with furnishings. Also, a picnic area is available.
