In 1870, the first train of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway rolled across the Prairie on the site that would become the town of Parsons. That railroad would become known as the Katy. Now, 145 years later, trains continue to run through Parsons and the town celebrates its railroad heritage with the annual Katy Days Festival. The festival is held on Memorial Weekend every year. Railroad Events: Track Construction by the Gandy Dancers, Kiwanis Miniature Train, Memorabilia Displays, Model Railroad Show, Union Pacific Railroad Display, Railroad Reunion Tent, Blue Bonnet Banquet and Operation Lifesaver. Other Activities: Heritage Craft Demonstrations, Iron Horse Duathlon and 5K Run, Famous Homemade Pies, Children's Petting Zoo, History Zone, Horse Parade, Live Entertainment, Saturday Night Beer Garden, Strike It Rich Medallion Hunt, Katy Days Auction, Miss Katy Queen Competition and more.
