Dodge City
Dodge City is a pure definition of the West…a gateway to history that began with the opening of the Santa Fe Trail by William Becknell in 1821 and became a great commercial route between Franklin, Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico until 1880. Dodge City was known as the “wickedest little city in the west” during the 1870s and 1880s. Notable lawmen such as Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp became legends in their own time as they fought to establish law and order on the streets of Dodge City.
Hutchinson
Located in central Kansas, Hutchinson is home to some of Kansas’ most popular attractions, including the Smithsonian-affiliated Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, The Kansas State Fair and the Kansas Underground Salt Museum, an experience truly unlike any other! Relax at the Dillon Nature Center which includes a National Recreation Trail, Urban Wildlife Sanctuary, beautiful gardens, arboretum and gift shop.
Just 40 miles west of Kansas City is historic Lawrence with one of America’s most authentic main streets. The five blocks of Massachusetts Street is lined with century old buildings, eclectic boutiques, tempting sidewalk cafes and more. Lawrence is home to the University of Kansas with the Dole Institute of Politics and the Spencer Museum of Art. Just outside of town in Clinton Lake you can fish, boat, swim, camp, relax!
Nestled in the Flint Hills, Manhattan is home to Kansas State University. Campus attractions include the Beach Museum of Art and the K-State Gardens. Nearby Aggieville is one of the oldest shopping districts in Kansas with over 100 shops, restaurants and bars. Each summer Manhattan, “the Little Apple”, host Country Stampede at the base of Tuttle Creek Lake dam. Tee it up at one of several area golf courses or hike the nearby Konza Prairie.
Olathe
In southwest Kansas City metro, Olathe is rich in historical and cultural attractions. In addition to the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, visit the William and Marra Museum of Deaf Culture, designed to communicate the history of the Kansas School for the Deaf. Stop at the Ensor Farm Site Museum and Park, home of Marshall Ensor, a pioneer in amateur HAM radio. Walk the trails at Lone Elm Park, the only frontier trails campground where the Oregon, Santa Fe and California Trials converged. Nature lovers will enjoy the Ernie Miller Nature Center and Park and the Prairie Center. Save time for shopping and dining including great BBQ!
Overland Park
Visitors to Overland Park find some of the Kansas City area's finest shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. A variety of lodging accommodations provide easy access to unique attractions, including over 250 restaurants, shopping, family-friendly activities, theaters, art, miles of trails and three championship golf courses. The 300-acre Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is open year-round. Kids will love the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. Historic Downtown Overland Park offers quaint eateries, antiques, art galleries, and retail shops. The Nerman Musem of Contenmporary Art is the region's largest comtemporary art museum. Salina sits at the crossroads of I-70 and I-135. Among the unique attractions is Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventures, a 65-acre zoological park nestled in the Kansas Prairie. It includes a world-class wildlife museum, housing one of the largest collections of full-mount animals in the world and a children’s discovery area. Relax on the veranda of the Smoky Hills Vineyards and Winery while you sample from their 25 varieties of wine. Historic Downtown Salina offers unique shops, restaurants, galleries and cultural venues. Also downtown is the Smoky Hill Museum with newly renovated galleries and children's discovery center.
Topeka
The largest city in Kansas has something for all ages.
