The Elkhart, Kan. native kept running, setting world records in the mile and 800 meters and winning a silver medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This and other inspiring stories about our state’s outstanding athletes, as well as an amazing display of original sports memorabilia, can be found at the Kansas Sports Museum in Newton.
