Nelson's Landing Serves Local Sports History With Pie on the Side

On a recent road trip around the north end of Tuttle Creek Reservoir and part of Milford Lake, we drove into the community of Leonardville, a town of less than 500 people, situated between the north ends of the two nearby lakes. As we entered town, we drove past the "Welcome to Leonardville" sign, which boasted "Home of Jordy Nelson, Super Bowl XLV." Nelson earned All-American honors as a wide receiver at Kansas State University, was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft  and as of this writing, plays for the Green Bay Packers.

Looking for a Fight at Milford Lake

While working at a marina in college, I pulled out dead minnows from our live tanks and threw them off the dock every day. Bald Eagle viewing in Kansas

As far as my bird watching experience goes, the most memorable experience I’ve had is being up close and personal with a falcon while visiting the United States Air Force Academy. Then, while aiding in a story on birding weekends in Great Bend for KANSAS! magazine, I was intrigued to learn what prime real estate Kansas has for witnessing various migratory birds, but none more special then the bald eagle.

Milford Lake's All-season Fishing

It was November 27 and it was cold; a perfect morning for pheasant or duck hunting, and as much as I love to hunt birds, you would have assumed I was visiting Geary County to do just that. But I wasn’t. Bundled in my cold-weather bibs and parka, I turned the key and the outboard motor rumbled to life as my friend back the boat trailer down the Wakefield ramp on Milford Lake.
