My husband had to work one particular Saturday, so the boy and I hit the road for my next assignment - Wilson, in Central Kansas. I mentioned to my son that we'd be passing two of Kansas' most popular lakes, Lake Wilson (at Wilson State Park and Milford Reservoir ), and before I knew it, our fishing poles and gear were packed. Tue, 27 Aug 2013 07:00:00 GMT http://www.travelks.com/blog/post/2013/27/Blogger-Finds-Slice-of-Summer-Fun-and-Rhubarb-Pie-in-Wilson/3066/ Topeka's RowHouse Perfect for Special Occasions...Like Days That End in “Y” http://www.travelks.com/blog/post/2013/4/Topeka-s-RowHouse-Perfect-for-Special-Occasions-Like-Days-That-End-in-Y-/3036/
With our busy schedules and little time to cook, our family eats out quite often. But after having one of the best meals out we've ever experienced in our hometown of Topeka, Hubby and I agreed that from now on, we will gladly sacrifice a couple drive-through dinners and a sit-down chain each month to be able to enjoy the RowHouse Restaurant. That's more than twice our state's human population! Our family saw a good many of these bovine beauties on a recent trip to western Kansas, where we sampled some Kansas beef at Plank's Barbecue in Garden City. Sadly, dining on the road became a quick stop necessity in my hurry to get where I was going rather than the experience it should be for travelers. I realized how much I was missing when I stopped in Goodland for lunch at On The Bricks Café, a quaint restaurant with delicious food, a calming atmosphere and friendly staff providing quick service. Thu, 06 Dec 2012 07:00:00 GMT http://www.travelks.com/blog/post/2012/6/Goodland-s-On-The-Bricks-Caf-Worth-The-Stop/2939/ Roy’s Hickory Pit BBQ in Hutchinson Hog Heaven http://www.travelks.com/blog/post/2012/9/Roy-s-Hickory-Pit-BBQ-in-Hutchinson-Hog-Heaven/2837/
Exiting my car parked in front of Roy’s Hickory Pit BBQ in Hutchinson, I got a whiff of the tantalizing aroma of meat slowly smoking over hickory and my stomach quickly started to rumble. Fired up for Roy’s mouthwatering meat topped with a mild and sweet sauce I remembered from a previous visit, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into those succulent ribs once again. In fact, I purposely arrived early to avoid the potential long line of customers that sometimes extends out the bright red front door of the sunny yellow building during the lunch hour.
