Okay, so I was traveling on highways through Kansas. But I was going out there. My uncle warned me, "Keep an eye on the gas gage. Don't want to get stuck between stations." We were headed to the High Plains. My kids automatically packed their red bandanas. I threw some extra sandwiches into the cooler. This was serious. Traveling along I-70 I love to experience the rolling Flint and Smoky Hills regions. One of these days when there is more time, I plan to exit the Interstate and travel through the byways but for now, I will enjoy them in my rush to get from point A to point B. It is located 10 miles south of Kingsdown or 20 miles southeast of Dodge City. That 10 mile road goes through basically flat Kansas crop land. Then, like magic, before our eyes is this absolutely amazing multicolored rocky canyon with a deep blue sparkling lake at the bottom. It’s hard to believe it is Kansas. We wanted to enjoy everything about southwestern Kansas. We started with a pit stop in Great Bend for a tasty meal at Diane’s Diner and a little shopping downtown. On the road again, we enjoyed our view of beautiful wheat fields being harvested.
