You probably remember Andrew McCarthy from his starring roles in such feature films as “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “Pretty in Pink.” For the past few years, though, McCarthy has been hosting video travelogues and writing articles from around the world for AFAR, National Geographic Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazines. He was even named the 2010 Travel Journalist of the Year by the Society of American Travel Writers.

McCarthy has explored such exotic locales as the Amazon and Angkor Wat. However, in a recent online Q&A he mentions Lawrence, Kan., as holding a special place among all his travel adventures: “Believe it or not, one place I’ve always wanted to go back to is Lawrence, Kan. I worked there 25 years ago and have great memories of the place.” Read more about McCarthy and his travel experiences
